Fjällräven and Sustainability
The brand Fjällräven received 4 out of 7 points and has the status „Good job”.
Therefore it deserves our Sustainable tag.
Read more about our criteria for assessing sustainability.
Materials used to make Fjällräven products include organic cotton, recycled cotton, recycled polyester, Tencel Lyocell or leather from animals that have been raised for meat production, so that the leather is a by-product.
The brand guarantees that the dyes used in the production are not harmful to the environment or the workers who handle them. The European Union's REACH regulation, which regulates the use of chemicals, is complied with.
The brand is responsible for ensuring that workers up to level 2 of the supply chain have good working conditions that are controlled. They are therefore provided with a safe working environment and have adequate wages.
The brand knows its suppliers up to level 2 - therefore it does not know the suppliers of raw materials.
The brand is aware of its negative impact on the planet, and therefore seeks to offset its emissions. It supports UN-certified renewable energy projects that are certified according to the Golden Standard and other non-profit organizations. Ship, freight and air transport are used to transport goods. In some places, goods are transported using DHL GoGreen, and in Costa Rica, the Globetrotter Vision Forest afforestation project is supported. In 2018, they compensated for 17,777 tons of CO2 consumed for the transport of goods, business trips or, for example, participation in the ISPO trade fair.
The complete production chain has a longer path than 10 000 km.
The Fjällräven initiative called the Arctic Fox represents the idea that there are countless great ideas that can have a positive impact on the environment. At the same time, it is clear that, through collective efforts, we can exacerbate these positive effects even more. Every year, any non-profit organization can apply with its project, which focuses on environmental protection and the best of them is supported by fundraising from the sale of selected products. The winning projects are decided by an expert commission.
