Materials used by the Secrid brand to make its products include aluminum and leather. The leather used comes from animals that have been bred for meat production.
The brand guarantees that the dyes used in the production are not harmful to the environment or the workers who handle them. The European Union's REACH regulation, which regulates the use of chemicals, is complied with.
The brand is responsible for ensuring that workers up to level 2 of the supply chain have good working conditions that are controlled. They are therefore provided with a safe working environment and have adequate wages.
The brand knows its suppliers up to level 2 - therefore it does not know the suppliers of raw materials.
The brand is aware of the negative effects of a long production chain and seeks to produce locally in factories in the Netherlands and select suppliers in the EU. As aluminum suppliers have to use resources outside the EU to obtain bauxite, thus extending the production range, the brand decided to compensate for its carbon footprint and in 2009 established cooperation with the Fair Climate Fund.
The complete production chain has a longer path than 10 000 km.
